The OCTAVE Institute organised a two-day accreditation exercise for Group O&P colleagues to use SHL’s psychometric tests. During the event, attendees used the Occupational Personality Questionnaire (OPQ) and enjoyed learning more about each other.
Khoo Shu Wen, Manager Group People & Organization, said, “The SHL training provided an opportunity to learn from experienced professionals in the field of organisational psychology. One of the key benefits of the SHL training was the ability to use the OPQ and Verify G frameworks to gain a deeper understanding of an individual’s behavioural tendencies and work styles. In my role at Group People & Organization (P&O), this creates more effective hiring processes and targeted coaching for a diverse workforce.”

Huang Qiaoru, Lead, Total Rewards, Group People & Organization, found the experience insightful, particularly the universal competency model and interpreting the ranges of ability and occupational personality tests. She highlighted the program’s developmental conversation with fellow team members as a fun way to learn and grow together.
Angela Tan, Manager Talent Acquisition, was glad to attend the SHL certification training and found it enriching. She believes that using the right psychometric tools can bring positive outcomes not only in the hiring process but also in engaging and developing a person.
Joanne Teh, Head Coaching Practice, OCTAVE Institute, enjoyed the group discussion and debrief exercises, which provided her with a robust understanding of what the SHL tools are designed to achieve and how to decipher the reports. She emphasized that the reports can be used as a powerful conversational starter and window for coaching, helping coaches partner with staff meaningfully in their onboarding, development, and growth cycles to help them flourish in their work at IMC.
