In a momentous gathering that celebrated both intellectual enlightenment and the power of partnerships, “One Choice, One World: The Rise of The Well-Being and Happiness Economy” was launched at The Halogen Ball on 17 August.

The latest book by Chavalit Frederick Tsao, Chairman of IMC Pan Asia Alliance Group, presents a visionary perspective on a new era of well-being and happiness, highlighting humanity’s interconnectedness with all life.

“In today’s world mired in challenges brought about by globalisation and digitalisation, we are at a very different juncture. The future before us will be very different compared to the industrial era that we are familiar with,” he said.

“To confront global challenges, we must forge a common worldview grounded in the recognition that humanity is part of the ecosystem for all life on Earth. There is an urgent need for us to co-create a new era of inclusive and holistic well-being.”

The Halogen Ball is the 20th anniversary celebration of the Halogen Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation focused on empowering youth to create change. Octave Institute was the presenting sponsor of the event, which was graced by guest-of-honour Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Former Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore.

In his keynote speech, Tharman called on young people to “be impatient for change…but more than that, be impatient to participate, to initiate, to collaborate”.

Estimated to make up the largest demographic in the world and account for 40% of the global population by the year 2028, global youth are the most affected by the crises facing our world. But they are also the best placed to shape a more resilient, sustainable and inclusive society for tomorrow.

To mark the beginning of a new partnership between the Halogen Foundation and the Octave Institute to help youth maximise their potential, Chairman Chavalit also presented a collaborative contribution of SGD 250,000 at the event. The contribution will support the co-creation of programmes to impact and empower youth in their education journey beyond schooling, and will also augment the Halogen Foundation’s outreach efforts with businesses and governments in the region.

Emphasising a key message from his latest book that everyone has a part to play in the paradigm shift, Chairman Chavalit said: “The core of all businesses and societies is its people, and the youth represent the up-and-coming generation who will inherit the world and shape its future. This year’s theme by the Halogen Foundation, ‘Co-creating our Future’, is a timely reminder that we have a collective responsibility to provide fertile soil for youth to flourish and add value to society and humanity.”
